The second annual lightpath festival proudly supported by barfoot thompson is a free family friendly evening celebrating this iconic addition to our city and the joy of people friendly streets. Representatives from the nz transport agency auckland council auckland transport and bike auckland attended the opening. On the opening day alone almost 2800 people cycled the lightpath with hundreds more crossing it on foot and enjoying its sweeping views over the harbour and city. In early december of last year the nelson street cycleway or te ara i whiti the lightpath was opened to auckland s cyclists and pedestrians.

Auckland s hot pink cycleway has struck gold at the world architecture festival in berlin. The nelson street cycleway is a cycleway and in some sections a shared pathway for walking and cycling in auckland new zealand the most well known section of the path is te ara i whiti translated as and commonly known as lightpath also known as the pink path which is located on the old nelson street motorway off ramp the cycleway then continues on to the nelson street arterial road. The lightpath te ara i whiti has been awarded the top prize in the transport completed building. Bridge as well as the old nelson street motorway off ramp will be called te ara i whiti which translates as the lightpath.
